First-round tertiary offers — what are my options?
By now you will know whether you received a first-round tertiary offer. If you did, congratulations! You must enrol to ensure your place, so follow the directions on your offer letter carefully.
If you are one of the many applicants who missed out on a first-round tertiary offer, consider the following options:
- You may receive a tertiary offer in the second or third round
- Use the course search to explore TAFE programs
- Explore apprenticeships and traineeships
- Apply for mid-year tertiary intake
- Look into taking some short courses.
Check with your individual institutions, as some universities have irregular offers for those who miss out, or can help with advice on starting a TAFE course with a pathway to the degree you wish to complete.
If you receive an offer and want to defer it until 2011, check with your institution to see if this is allowed.
If you receive an offer (even if it’s not your first choice) it’s a good idea to enrol, because there is no guarantee that you will receive an offer in the middle or late rounds and you risk missing out on tertiary study in 2010. Again, check with your chosen institution. Most universities have set up helplines and webpage faq’s to answer your questions at this confusing time.
There are many resources on Good Uni Guide to help you.
