Job Guide

This national job and career education bible details the education and training pathways to almost 600 occupations. Visit the Job Guide website to learn about different occupations and pathways or find information about Australian Apprenticeships, VET in Schools, study support services, looking for work and building a résumé. The site also features a leaflet and podcast for parents with suggestions and strategies for discussing careers at home.

The Good Universities Guide

This annual publication covers everything you need to know about course and higher education institution options in Australia, including unique five star ratings. It is used by careers advisers, parents, students and academics and is the most comprehensive and independent source of consumer information on Australian higher education. You can even register to access the ratings online.

Year 12 - what next?

A website for year 12 students and their families exploring employment and education opportunities after graduation. Sections cover topics as diverse as taking a gap year, running your own business and areas of future employment growth.

Study Assist

Check this website out for government information about higher education. It is particularly useful for anyone with questions about funding university study, with sections on fees, Commonwealth Scholarships and the Higher Education Loan Programme (HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP).

Centrelink

Drop into a Centrelink office or visit the ‘Information for School Leavers’ area of their website for more information about Youth Allowance for students, the Centrelink Career Information Centres and other careers resources.

Bullseye Charts

These fascinating government-produced charts take an individual look at 30 school subjects and the many occupations each can lead to, organised by level of education required for entry. If you enjoy or are good at biology, for example, you might be well suited to a career as a geneticist, winemaker, sports psychologist or fisheries officer.

Ace Day Jobs is a series of five-minute video interviews with everyday Australians about what they do all day, why they love their jobs and how they got where they are.

Australian Career Development Studies

This site hosts several online careers courses developed by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) in association with Miles Morgan Australia. Students and parents will be most interested in the Awareness of Career Development component — a series of free, self paced tutorials targeted towards those planning their own career.
